Unsigned builds, stated plainly.
None of these builds are code-signed. That is normal for an independent build and is not a finding about these files — but your operating system doesn’t know that, and what it does about it differs sharply per platform. If any of this sounds like more trouble than it’s worth, Vero works fully in the browser and nothing is missing there.
Windows — one extra click
SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” with the publisher listed as unknown. Choose More info, then Run anyway. The installer then behaves normally.
macOS — Gatekeeper will refuse to open it
This is stronger than a warning. Because the app is neither signed nor notarised, the first time you open it macOS shows a dialog saying Vero cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software, and offers you only Move to Trash or Cancel. There is no “open anyway” button in that dialog. Most people stop here, and that is a completely reasonable place to stop.
If you want to continue, the path exists but it is buried:
- Open the .dmg and drag Vero into Applications.
- Open Vero once. Dismiss the dialog with Cancel — not Move to Trash.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section.
- There is a line saying Vero was blocked. Press Open Anyway next to it, and confirm with your password or Touch ID.
You only do this once. But it is genuinely hostile, it is Apple’s decision rather than ours, and it stays this way until Vero is notarised through a paid Apple Developer account. If you’d rather not, use Vero in Safari or Chrome — it is the same app.
Linux — no security prompt
Neither format is gated by a signature check, so there is nothing to click through. The AppImage does need the executable bit before it will run: chmod +x Vero_*.AppImage. The .deb installs with sudo apt install ./Vero_*.deb. Both are built on Ubuntu 24.04, so they need glibc 2.39 or newer — on an older distro the app will not start at all, and the AppImage is the more portable of the two.
Signing in
Sign in with your email and password — the same ones you use on the web. If you don’t have a password yet because you only ever used Google, set one first at verostocks.com/forgot-password, then use it here.
Continue with Google doesn’t finish inside the app. Google blocks its sign-in flow in embedded app windows, so the app opens your normal browser instead — and the session ends up there rather than in the app. That is a limit on Google’s side, not something the app is doing wrong, and email sign-in is unaffected.
